We made it to Israel!! Four people arrived on Sunday, and the other fifteen of us flew together Wednesday night into Thursday, and arrived Thursday afternoon at Ben Gurion Airport. Generally speaking, the travel was smooth and uneventful, as was our bus ride north to Haifa. We met our terrific guide, Muki, and our bus driver, Meyer, and we were off!
Once in Haifa, we stopped at the top of the Baha'i Gardens (one of my favorite spots in the country!), and stared in awe at the beautiful view of the city and the Mediterranean. It was a great way to start our trip.
And after an obligatory group photo and a Shehecheyanu prayer (for new and momentous occasions), we got back on the bus to check in at our hotel. We are staying one night at the Dan Panorama, which is a trip, because our Ohev group stayed at the same hotel in 2011, and the place looks pretty much EXACTLY the same!! Dinner was delicious, and then a few of us went for an evening stroll to await the inevitable crash of jetlag. Sure enough, it came for all of us, and we were off to bed.
So ends a wonderful Day One of our exciting food and wine tour of Israel. Can't wait to see Tzfat tomorrow, and to spend Shabbat on the banks of the Sea of Galilee (the Kinneret). So, so thankful to be back in Israel with my congregation.
Baruch Atah Adonai, Eloheinu Melech Ha-Olam, She-hecheyanu, v'Kiyemanu, v'Higianu La-z'man Ha-zeh!
With love from Israel,
Rabbi Gerber
Very cool that you started this Ohev Shalom trip where the last ended! Wishing everyone a wonderful and life-changing experience.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rich. Yes, it was a great first day, and a fantastic way to start our trip. Still have SUCH great memories from our 2011 trip; and this one truly is picking up where the last one left off. A great group, a lot of fun, and memories to cherish for a lifetime!
